Why I still use real tube amps... AND modelers
Digital vs. Analog! 'Real' vs. 'Modeled!' Guitarists (and musicians in general) love to go off about this stuff, but at the end of the day... what really matters?

I Give It a Year (Quick Demo)

This one came to me driving around in my Jeep, thinking about my going-on-23 year marriage to the lovely Katie. This demo, like life itself, is 'warts and all,' not intended as a polished recording by any means. Trying to get used to the idea of putting up videos that don't require a week of editing. Haha.

How to fall in LOVE with Single Coil Pickups
Переглядів 2,2 тис.Рік тому
As a longtime Gibson player, it took me years to truly 'get' single coils. Here are all the things that make them feel foreign to guitarists accustomed to humbuckers, and what you can do to get more comfortable with them and start integrating classic Leo Fender-inspired tones into your music. Hope you enjoy it! Guitars: G&L Legacy, G&L ASAT Special Semi-hollow, G&L Doheny Amp: Mesa Boogie Calif...
Happy 75th Carlos Santana (with STORIES!)

For Carlos Santana's 75th birthday, I decided to tell a few short stories from my personal interactions with him. I really think they demonstrate his spirit and why he's still one of my true heroes after all these years! There will be a LOT of Santana stuff on this channel in the near future... enjoy! ALSO: Here's a link to the song I mentioned in the video, 'One of These Days' from the Shaman ...

That Time I Accidentally Joined LOS LOBOS

A recent story of how I ended up onstage with Los Lobos, one of my absolute favorite bands... with 15 minutes' notice. I also showcase a few of their killer guitar riffs, of course. Make sure you check out their albums, and the ones by Latin Playboys too if you're into the experimental stuff. Special thanks to my friend Armando Tavares! Everything I got WRONG about Hendrix' 'Little Wing'
Переглядів 158 тис.2 роки тому
‘Little Wing’ by Jimi Hendrix is perhaps THE essential clean electric guitar intro, pretty much ‘required material’ for learning his chordal approach. In this episode of RockSplaining, I go back to see what I missed from the original Hendrix version, and compare that to some high quality tutorials I’ve found on UA-cam… and yeah, I missed a LOT. I also reference a few other Hendrix tunes to emph...
I Played the Ultimate Jimmy Page ZEP 1 Signature Rig!
Переглядів 74 тис.2 роки тому
Jimmy Page's guitar tones on the first Led Zeppelin album are the definition of legendary. I recently had the honor of meeting Mitch Colby, the one man entrusted by Page with reverse-engineering the mysterious modded Supro Coronado, and replicating it for the first-ever Jimmy Page signature amplifier, the Sundragon. In this video I discuss the uniqueness of Page's sound, get the Sundragon backs...

Stand By Me - Swampy Acoustic Version by JB Eckl
Seems like this video has aged quite well.
Haha, cool. I have to say every demo of those Falcon amps is a bullseye for me.
So fun!
Thanks man. Fun is the name of the game!
Conspiracy theories are only that until proven true. They always come true. And with that the earth is flat.
That was one amazing video. Thank you seems like not enough. 👏👏👏👏👏👏 This is why Page is the greatest guitar player period. I don’t care if he *insert anything here that people normally point out that is not flattering* no one can deny the greatness of this one song.
Nothing against your guitar skills, but this ! this is a crime against music. Police are my favourite band, and this is one of my favourite songs, both to listen to and to play on the guitar. What makes it magic is the interplay between bass, drum and guitar, the wonderful rhythm of it. Your version has nothing in common with the original , except you used the same lyrics. PLEASE ! Just write your own tune next time, but don't ruin a masterpiece like Spirits in the Material World. End of rant.
Hmmmm. I’m as much a fan as you are and could go off for days about the exact things you mentioned… but a great song is a great song. If it’s really that much of a masterpiece it should hold up to much more drastic interpretations than this. Maybe my style isn’t for you. I’m not saying this is as good as Joe Cocker covering the Beatles or Aretha singing ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water,’ but I feel pretty good about my little tribute to Sting’s writing genius… with or without his legendary collaborators. Anyway thanks for checking it out.
Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, it's not your style I have a problem with. Many other songs are amenable to another artist's "interpretation" and changing up the version a bit. But not Spirits in the Material World. The magic of this song is in the rhythm, the syncopation of the guitar against the bass and drum. When you change it so drastically as you have, you have a different song entirely. Whatever floats your boat dude, but for me this was sacrilege ! 😀😃
Boring video
I don’t know man, I thought it was pretty good
Definitely a deep dive but 6:30 before any music gets played? Sorry, but …
@@markwalters7498 Well thanks for trying to watch it anyway! I did call it rockSPLAINING.... haha.
You made me smile… You did a mighty fine job of figuring this song out. Jimmy was full of tricks and it was always a journey figuring them out. I learned a whole lot from him…
No need to apologize for not using a Rick Turner guitar on this song. Lindsey didn't get his until 1979; he used a Les Paul on Rumours, so your choice was perfect.
Jimmy Page is a first rate arranger, so clear to hear in When The Levee Breaks. He thought through all the harmonies and counter melodies and the result was almost magical.
Damn, dude. GREAT deep dive into one of the greatest songs even. I’ve always wondered about the guitar on it.
Every once in a while UA-cam plays a blinder and recommends a fascinating video like this. Subscribed!
Fuckin outstanding. Almost a documentary man. Shame you couldn't use original material to illustrate what you're saying but what the hell right we've all heard the song a million times. Good work hats off to you
Great presentation. One of my favorite Zep songs!
Genius
I've loved this track since it was released. Your analysis hasn't diminished that in the least, but has only added to my appreciation of it. Somehow, it took three years for this video (and your channel) to pop up as a recommendation. Thanks YT. Better late than never. <edit> Subscribed.
Awesome vid! “Hi, I’m Jimmy Page and I want to create the greatest cluster-eff for what should be a simple blues/rock song ever!”. Gotta love the challenge.
I think you have perfectly described the secret sauce to Jimi Hendrix.
Well done, brother!! Great commentaries below on your guitar genius ear! Impressive informative and entertaining, riveting actually
Thank you kindly!
I was on my way home from work and decided to learn this song. I ended up playing it all on slide in the tuning from Zepparella. Then I saw your video !! I think you totally nailed it !!! Great Job !! I am now your big fan !!!
Too kool for school ! A great job and great video. I like your style.
My second time watching and still blown away! You killed it! Yup! Bananas!
I've watched hella lot of guitar vids over the years, but this was by far the deepest dive. I hope Jimmy sees it one day. I regret that I have but one upvote to give.
Live he played it probably closer to what you were originally thinking it was. Probably drove the poor guy nuts too. lol
get it to spotify motherf******************** 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
I never heard When The Levee Breaks until a month or so ago driving early morning to a large muddy job site our survey company is currently working at. An actual Levee and water reservoir in Ochechobee Florida on what used to be an orange grove. Mud, deer, hogs and wildlife, running out of places to exist due to the need for "development" of humans. Listening to this for the first time driving the truck on the bumpy dirt path. My coworker and I both agreed this was really the perfect song for the moment. Now here we are with this in my newsfeed. The algorithm works out pretty good sometimes. Great video and homage to these legends
Wow you got that slid tone perfect!!!
Thanks man!
At 12:29 hairs stood up on my arm.. this is the odd thing I've always heard in this song!! 👍!
That was great but should have played the at the end but you did the impossible
Wow!!! What a bunch of ssshhWORK!!! Hahaaaa. Phew....sounds Great Dudesicle!!
I got the visual Easter egg you threw in there. Love the video. Any plans to deconstruct/explore Traveling Riverside Blues?
Thx a lot JB Eckl, great video IT makes fun to watch👍🎸
Glad you enjoyed it!
Salaam! Wow !!!! Dude you are amazing and sooo, on point. You understand this Music(Art) Form Absolutely. Your playing is amazing …🌹
Wow, thank you!
There’s a guy who just goes by Greg on UA-cam who does amazingly accurate Hendrix stuff.
This guitar analysis is amazing
Led Zeppelin IV was released on November 8, 1971. I was at Led Zeppelin's show at the Berkeley Community Theater on September 13, 1971 and they played Stairway To Heaven. My girl friend and I thought that this was a really cool song. I appreciate you sharing your breakdown of When The Levee Breaks. I have been a Page fan since he joined The Yardbirds in 1966. I saw Led Zeppelin on 5 different tours starting on April 26, 1969. Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page are my two favorite guitarists. Thank you for the video.
I watched the entire video. I am your people.
Ho,lee,shit, great content. Subscribed
Great analysis. Neither will replace the other. So let's just have the best of both worlds. Les Paul and Stratocaster are both must haves.
This is Levee gold! 🥇 Also, you look like Jeff Lynne when the British flag is superimposed on your face. And also... You are skilled at both playing and searching out not just correct notes but vibes and probable intentions. I like that! That is creative 💯
Vàga hea....
Hi JB. I like, I subscribe. I made it through the whole thing. You did an excellent job. I’m sure Jimmy would be proud. One thing though. Where’s the harp?!?! You gotta have a Bb harmonic to make it sound right!!!! Add The Harp and Do It Again. LOL
What you called the ghost note in the really high slide riff could very possibly be just a very lucky accident because when I play slide riffs like that similar mistakes often happen and I kind of just roll with them because they don't sound that bad and they're actually kind of cool
Bill Monroe used double course strings tuned to 1-5 on the mandolin.
Awesome. I think you nailed those little quirky touches in the recording. Thank you.
Pages tunes put me into a trance. I started young. In 1968 I was 14 years old, my friend lit up some gold bud when I first heard Zeppelin 4 - when the levy breaks. I got to see Zeppelin live in Fort Worth Texas in 1973, wow it was the greatest live show and shows with Jimmy Page then to through now the greatest live tunes ever - JW
Just love your analysis of the song man. Very cool work ! Keep it up
Glad you enjoy it!
Auto tune makes a bad singer mediocre and a good singer bland! I have no need for it!
BRAVO!
The 7 by Secret Chiefs 3
The zaperrela cover makes it look easy. Don't over complicate it. 😇
It’s an interesting (and hard) exercise to make it sound like the album. I spoke at length about it with Gretchen from Zepparella, and her only concern is to make the song work onstage. But she loves this kind of stuff.
@@JB_Eckl I think what you're missing here is that you talk about these complex tunings capos on and on but the majority of us who came up thru this Era had zero technical education in music or music theory. All it took was to love what you do with the dedication and practice to create and play music that the people really loved to hear but above all else be a "tight" band which you may not understand but that's the way it was. 😇
Which I may not understand. Haha. Whatever you say sir.
@@JB_Eckl no offense kid. You just try a little to hard to impress. Pick up your fuckin ax and chop boy. 😇
